The sport of pickleball is currently increasing in popularity; therefore, there is rising demand related to the occurrence and treatment of pickleball-related injuries. Hand and upper extremity therapists are likely encountering pickleball-related injuries necessitating a good understanding of assessment and intervention for these types of injuries particularly when the injury is a cumulative trauma related to actual play of the sport. This webinar will explore current research on pickleball-related injuries, analyze body dynamics during play and discuss recommendations for equipment modification and other interventions to reduce upper extremity related conditions and symptoms.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
- Identify common pickleball-related injuries
- Discuss OT interventions and recommendations for reducing symptoms/preventing upper extremity injuries
- Make recommendations on style of racket grip
- Analyze good versus poor body mechanics during play
- Discuss possible options for pickleball equipment modification for addressing symptoms
