Format: 45 minutes presentation. 15 minutes Q&A
Webinar description:
This webinar will provide the participants with an introduction to tests that differentiate an attenuated extensor tendon and an adherent extensor tendon at the PIPJ as both problems contribute to an extensor lag; review critical anatomical features of the digital extensor system, highlight diagnoses that can be associated with the development of the extensor lag; and review interventions to both prevent and treat extensor lag at the PIPJ. The participants will then be able to predict when this problem may occur and design therapy programs to prevent the problem or provide early management when the lag is first apparent. Prevention and early management are more successful than late management.
Learning objectives:
- Identify three areas of injury to portions of the extensor anatomy in Zones 2-4 and link deficits with clinical assessment.
- Demonstrate clinical exam techniques to determine the difference between an adherent and attenuated extensor tendon at the PIPJ level.
- Link clinical injuries/conditions with the potential for the development of an extensor lag to anticipate the problem, and manage the condition before significant lag develops.
- Identify 3 therapeutic exercise and orthotic interventions to prevent or treat an extensor lag at the PIPJ.
