Have you heard ASHT’s NEW Hands in Motion podcast? I know I am so excited to a part of debuting this new platform discussing all things hand to shoulder. Co-host Cara Smith, PT, DPT, CHT and I, Stephanie Strouse, OTD, OTR/L, CHT, join you bi-weekly to chat and maybe even sometimes deliberate from all perspectives of hand upper extremity therapy.
A little bit more about us, your hosts: Cara specializes in pediatric hand therapy…WHAT? So awesome that is a specialty! I have been working in hands for many years…YES, way too many to mention and I do not want to date myself. What better than a PT/OT duo?
Our mission is to keep YOU, our members, informed on the latest buzz in hand and upper extremity therapy from all angles — from a PT and OT perspective, surgeon point of view and, of course, the patient viewpoint.
In our debut episode, we have an incredible interview with none other than ASHT President Rachel Pigott, MPH, OTR/L, CHT and we expand on her topic of her presential address, Health Equity Lense. Her candid discussion really made me take a huge step back and look at the big picture and realize WOW…I need to begin to relate on a wider scope. I tend to stay secluded in my own bubble sometimes oblivious to really see what is going on around me. Never, would I think I would do a virtual visit as a hand therapist, but why not? We made accommodations because of a pandemic; why can’t we not make visit accommodation for lack of transportation or lack of funds?
In our conversation, we talk about
- What exactly is a "healthcare equity lense" anyway?
- Why did it take a pandemic to wake us up?
- Raising your voice to advocate for equity.
- And more!
Cara and I KNOW you are going to love what we bring to the table each episode; we have a great lineup so far and if you love what you hear, make sure you subscribe and leave a review!
