ASHT exists, even thrives, because of our many members who get excited about being involved in this great organization. And there is no better time to get involved with ASHT than now because we have added several new elements to our nominations process. These changes were ratified by the members in our last election and are designed to open up the nomination process and make eligibility for a board position even easier.
Beginning February 6th through February 17th, nominations will open for members to nominate a fellow member they feel are qualified for a board position. These positions include Vice President, Secretary-Elect, and Board-Member-at-Large (BMAL). The new changes to our nomination process include a reduction in the membership requirement for board position eligibility. This time has been reduced from 5 years to 3 immediately prior to the election end. In addition, the requirement of prior board service for the position of Secretary-Treasurer Elect has been removed. Last, BMAL eligibility is now open to Active and Associate members.
But in the remote possibility your colleagues did not submit your name for a board position, do not despair. You may “self-nominate” beginning February 27th for any of these positions. The deadline for “self-nomination” submissions ends March 24th. The desired candidate qualifications, the nominations timeline, and a list of duties and responsibilities for all positions are available on the ASHT website. One final new change beginning this year will allow all candidates the opportunity to record a position statement video that will be posted on the ASHT website during the voting period (May 30 – June 26).
